A film about how the vikings discovered North America (Vinland) would be GREAT! The man who led the expedition was a swedish viking named Leif Eriksson. While the scandinavians were the first to discover this part of the world, the name for this continent would be "Vinland" (The Land of Wine). I like the name but dont know if it is possible to grow wine there.

I don't think you will have much success growing grapes in the Mid West, it was -20 the last time I was there, but California no problem I see bottles of wine from there in my supermarket.

My favouritewine is from California...Ernst Julio Gallo no less. If I dont remember the history wrong, why the viking named the New World Vinland was because it looked like the paradise to them. Wine was something luxurious for a people who only drank Mjöd (Mead). Mjöd is however stronger than Wine, and very easy to make. First you take the biggest cauldron you can find in your house. Then you need 1 litre of honey (2kg), some hops and 10 litres of water. If you want more spice you can add some raisin. The hops can be sewn in together with some limepeels in a piece of cloth and remain there during the cooking. Why you sew in the hops in a piece of cloth is quite logical....you dont want to drink the Mjöd and get hops into the mouth right? Then only the storage remains. At least 8 months is the minimum. But the longer it remains in storage the stronger the mjöd grows. After a year in storage you need only a little mouthfull of this brew to get completely...... But 10 litres in absolutely nothing if you want to arrange a vikingparty and invite some real vikings. You need at least a 100.
