Hey HAwks
HEre is my silly poll for u
If u could get one way ticket into ancient time - which country would u like to live ?
Choose country, your proffesion there , best moment in history and write something why u choose this
When Roman Total War will be realised i hope so we will meet in ancient time together !
Seriously this topic can help us to share knowledge about ancient time and really im intresting haw u will choose. ANy of this countrys not exist now ( except Greece and MAcedonia hawever this are absolutlly difrent states than in BC era ) so there u should have any "National" sentiment.

regards
kosc

Hee Hee! Ancient barbarians! They went into battle in blue body paint which was a husologenic (excuse spelling) so they were as high as kites the whole time. I mean apart from clothes and armour what else could you want?
Rape, pillage, stone circles and getting buried in a pile of mud, they had everything.
Who would you be Kosciuszko?

Wow, good topic.

Very hard decision for me, especially because this is a one way ticket.

I think maybe for me I would join the ancient barbarians. In reality they were not barbarous though, they were only considered so by the Romans et the time.

One attraction I have for them is the simplicity of life. Imagine living in a much simpler time. Of course disease, etc not favorable. Also I would miss many things we take for granted today.

Perhaps I could be a hunter or farmer among them. Perhaps I would be an advisor to the ruler, or even a king myself since the knowledge I possess would give me a significant advantage in their times.

Bow before me you ragged rabble!!!!!!!!!

Wow i see Jibb and Theo u like to be barbarians ..

Its really not t o easy to choose . AS younger man i was reading a lot about Sparta and really admired this small caoutry with their great brave army. But i dont like to muh discipline. Barbarian life looks cool when u thinking about robing, raping and kiddnaping nice ladys hawever theese moments are only except of long boiring life in forests and primitive towns.
BEst solution is to choose Roman state and to get some kind of job as clerk ( censor or questor in Province of ITaly - not in dirty Roma !!!!!! .

Being roman official is good way to be recruit to army ( i dont want to die as Hestatus in any stupid battle with barbarians ) second good thing is - regular income. Ofcource i dont want to be any importand cos in roman is easy to be poisoned, or murdered as fan on any faction. AS far away from politic as possible. GEx as assistand of Ceasar u will have to run away soon after death of your boss !!!!!

FRom second hand roman life is good cos u have full acces into great cultural life ( library in each town and many unemplyed greek philophers and poets ) and enterteiment ( chariots races, hyper olimpic - i dont like gladiators ). U can travel without passport to many conquered provinces and spend nice holidays on RHodos or Crete ... Smile Ofcource Roman state is best place where u can go to forum and to complain with other citizens : "something's rotten in the rebublic "...
Bad things are socialism - people getting all for free and all are lazy, corruption, and danger of slave rebelions.
Thats why im going to buy my ticket to roman republic or empire ( trully its not big diffrent for me what kind of goverman its will be there )
AS u see im looking for most comfortable - lazy life without any heroic moments Smile
Regards
kosc

Hmmm,

Well, nix to living in barbarian societies, no gracious. I would probably want to enjoy the luxuries of civilization (running water, waste management, ballanced diet, peace, libraries, entertaignemnt, etc) so Rome it would be. My second choice would be Carthage because they are a fascinating people. Living in Africa, yet Phoenecian in descenet, perhaps Greek, Mycenian? They too were a civilized people but got on the wrong side of History (Rome, the Vandals, Byzantium, Arabs). I would pick a nice, happy time for Carthage and live there if I could.

Well m8 you would want to get born in carthage, they sacrificed their children (babies) to their main god!

@Krazee while I rescpect the chines civilization but i prefer japanese dont know why, btw there are a lot of speculations that chinese civilization isnt the oldest in the world, well i think only that chinese them selves claim that they are the oldest civilization... no one else! Well i might be wrong so sorry in advance!

Yes its truth that such custom was in Carthage. Hawever remember it was very old custom and very seldom used . Only family could decided about it -- and it was made only to avoid great tragedy like for example plaque. Any goverman officials or religion chief did not decied about it.

U cant call for this Carthago barbarians - specially if u compare them with Romans. Romans used children of their slaves as food for lions. Romans after big victory during early republic were burning some prisoners alive just to make sacrifie and to thx for glory. HAWever romans were never specilally religius - so most of their bloody sacrifices were make just for tradition rather. And their bloody entertaiment ! Gladiators, slaves battles , etc.....

I really like Carthago in ancient history much moore than Rome -hawever i couldnt live in Carthago - its too hot there for me Smile

Well in cathage itself(the city) wasnt hot, it was know that in the city there was a climatic zone that always kept that part fresh and not hot... thats why they built a city there in the first place!

And remember guys, the "barbarians" were called such by the Romans. Most were actually civilized and organized.

In fact many consider the Nazi's etc as barbarians. The Japanese consider all foreigners to be barbarians, their word for foreigner is Gaijin. This word literally means "hairy barbarian".

So, my point is barbarian is in the eye of the beholder.

Me and Gex gonna kick some major butt this time.

Barbarians = hair, beards, beer, stone circles, burial mounds, round houses, druids and running around screaming at things. Now is it me or does that sound like some sort of paradise?!
Who wants democracy when the leader should clearly be the person with the biggest beard?
