Hi
I'm wondering if one of you is considering to go to Blindheim/Hchstdt for the battle commemoration. I'm still hesitating because of the distance I'll have to travel, but it's possible that I'll go.
It will be a massive event for sure, with tons of debates and reenactments, and very colorfull too... all the uniforms. Should give an excellent idea on early 18th C.-warfare!
Here are two links for more practical info, in English and German:

The program looks like this:

The Battle of Blenheim
Exhibition at Hchstdt Castle
1 July to 7 November 2004
At Hchstdt Castle, on the periphery of the battlefield of Hchstdt/Blenheim (Blindheim), the State of Bavaria is holding an exhibition in 2004 about the battle of the year 1704 and its aftermath.
The exhibition interprets the political background, the battle itself and its consequences through the display of original objects and exciting presentations. This clash of arms was a milestone on the way to a more peaceful Europe in which the political powers remained balanced.
The exhibition is being arranged by the Bavarian Administration of State Castles, Gardens, and Lakes in co-operation with the District (Bezirk) of Swabia and the Bavarian Army Museum, Ingolstadt. National and international lenders are supporting the project with impressive objects. A scholarly catalogue of the exhibition is being published.
Opening times: Daily from 9.00 a.m. 6.00 p.m. except Mondays

Local Museums
Hchstdt on the Danube:
Especially worth visiting is the Diorama of this battle, which was so important in world history, in the local Museum of the town of Hchstdt on the Danube. Covering about 24 square meters almost 9 000 hand-painted lead figures visually present the military conflict.
Blindheim:
In the local history museum (Heimathaus) in Blindheim a considerable number of relics of the 13th August 1704 are on display. In front of the museum a carved column of limestone erected in 1704 serves as a reminder of the battle.
Memorial Trail 1704
The town of Hchstdt on the Danube and the communities of Blindheim and Lutzingen have created a 1704 Memorial Trail On the Trail the Battle of Blenheim, which will be officially opened on 12th August 2004.
This circular trail of about 23 kilometres leads to the most important points of the battle. The visitor gleans basic information from field markers as well as information signs. At the same time he gets to appreciate the size of the battlefield: it is the largest in Bavaria. An information sheet as well as an accompanying pamphlet provide in-depth details of the Memorial Trail.
The Historic Days
Activities reach their peak during the Historic Days, when traditional Bavarian crafts and foods will be displayed and offered for sale by the local people.
Hchstdt:
5th 8th August and 11th 15th August 2004
Blindheim:

For information about events in 2004 at Blenheim Palace near Oxford, England, see www.blenheimpalace.com
Blenheim Palace was the truly magnificent gift of Queen Ann and a grateful nation to John Churchill, First Duke of Marlborough, for his victory at the battle of Blenheim (Blindheim/Hochstdt) in 1704. With Prince Eugene of Savoy and an Allied Army he inflicted the first major defeat on a powerful Franco-Bavarian Army.
Blenheim Palace, "the greatest military monument ever built", is the largest private house in England and today home to the 11th Duke of Marlborough.
In November 1874 it became the birthplace of Winston Churchill, Britains war time leader, who derived confidence, courage and political vision from his ancestor, who is little known today and yet moved the political axis of the world(Winston Churchill). In 2004 many special events will be held at Blenheim.

If I go, I'll go from Friday, 13th till Sunday 15th August.
Any of you considering that trip too? It's over two weeks...
