Hey, Sharpe had asked me about this but it got so buried in another thread that I forgot about it.
I have received a movie from Poland called "With fire and Sword". It is not released in the States! Also, this DVD is not playable on our DVDs, different format. Soooooo, I have bought something illegal, yes, something all the BIG stores said was not availabe...a progressive scan DVD player that plays DVDs from all over the world! I found it at a liittle film company for $60! Great huh? Hah! I beat their distribution game!
Anyways, this movie is great, has lots of hearty Cossacks, evil Tartars, and beautiful Polish winged lancers. Yet, Kosciuszko tells me this move is not even as good as "The Deluge" which is another movie, made by same director (Jerzy Hoffman) of a book in the trilogy by Heinrich Sinkeivich. So, I shall be collectiong movies, WHEREVER they may be from anywhere in the world cause hey, I CAN WATCH THEM! _________________

Hey Krazee,
If you can make it to Escondido some evening, there is a cool PC room/coffee house that I am a regular at; the owner said that I can watch the movie on his huge flat screen TV at the shop with a modified Play Station that will play the movie. Are you ever up this direction? If so, we can chill at Lanstorm, watch the movie, eat, drink and play some Battlefield afterwards! _________________

Anyone who has been to the states or Canada and been in one of these joints should know ( depending how the system works in each state I s'pose ) what I mean by this phrase.
If not then you can ask me on msn, cause I ain't gonna start repeating it on here.
Anyways, if you guys meet up , be nice to get piccy of you both actually together for the site. _________________

I dont know how could I miss this thread.
I m glad Drake you could watch the film and you liked it. Yes, the climate of the film shows quite good the situation in south-eastern Poland in 17th century. Still the main battle misses in film, it was not politically correct to show it, but the book ends with it. The battle was one of the biggest in 17th century in Europe (battle of Beresteczko).
And these who think artillery was fixed to the ground that time could be surprised how military talented polish king used it with infantry moving forward to defeat fast moving Tatars light cavalary in the center.
And now The Deluge, its really great film, one of the films you can watch again and again, the battle scenes look very good, i think even better than in With Fire and Sword, the problem is you cant get it in Poland with the subtitles. _________________
