HI there Winged HUssar and may I bid you a warm welcome to this , the Hawk's forum
Quite a few of our members have a great knowledge of this kind of information ( maybe not as much as you have though ) and it is a very kind, gracious and well received suggestion.
You might actually find the hawks who already have an in-depth knowledge are the ones who are asking you the most questions, maybe to confirm answers they are unsure about, or maybe even to test your own knowledge against theirs to see if you know the things they already know.
BTW m8, do you participate on the fields of AOW, AC/ FB or MTW ?
PLease tell us, so we know which servers to look out for your name.
I take it with such a in-depth knowledge and obvious compassion for the Art of historical warfare, that you would therefore thoroughly enjoy the spectacle of fighting on our beloved hawks battle maps.
Look forward to seeing you on the forum and possibly the server m8. _________________

Hi Winged Hussar, welcome to the hawks forum, one thing you could confirm before Cossack2 is launched covering the Napoleonic period, as I have had a heated debate at Cossack2.de forum that Grenadiers during Napoleonic period did not go around throwing Grenades on the open battlefields of Europe. For some gimmicky reason the developers have realeased video/screen shots of the game with Grenadiers marching forward and lobbing Grenades at the enemy troops, this is something more from Marlboroughs days.

First a bit of ad hoc, im a long time 1.15 player as 1.29 deathmatches simply went down in level of skill & behaviour im already downloading your hawk maps ( and they are a beauty ) and look forward to playing with members of your club.
I play 1.29 1.35 and AC (any questions covering data or if in need of references sites/books/pictures you can mail on kry56@op.pl)
As for the grenadiers of napoleonic period true some companies carried grenaders but at the fall of 1800 grenadier units stopped even carrying grenades there were 2 resons for it.
To trow grenade you needed to get close up and personal and the nap period guns had better firing rate and better range so using grenades would mean huge losses to your precious elite unit.
Secondly new and better tactics were invented for grnadiers ( ie french revolutionary wars) grenadiers would move in columns approach at firing range fire 2-3 salvos and go in with a baoynet maintaing a tight formation (it proved to be extremely effective against linear tactics of european armies ( to 1809 battle of wagram most european armies still used modernised versions of fredericks the great tactics thats why french with their columns flanking maneouvres and massed heavy cavalry were so effective ) so grenadiers were addapted to the overall way of fighting and grenades usefull in destroying entrenchments and so on became useless when facing large formations ( nap armies were more than 10 times bigger than their predecessors as mass conscription system was introduced into many countries). So there napoleonic grenadiers did not run around shouting "fire in the hole"!
For more material you can check www.histofig.com ( site is in french ill dig up something english in some time though )
best regards

Hey Winged Hussar......Do you know any information on cavalry used in the Battle of Rivoli. What was the quantity and type of cavalry for both sides. Also, we have maps showing placements of troops, but don't know which troops on the maps where cavalry units.
Thank you!

Ok jib search no further your guide to uniforms is here :
www.hat.com ( uniform guides mostly late napoleonic )
www.histofig.com (early to medium nap)
www.napoleonicguide.com( all you need)
but since internet sites aint always good as uniform references ( ppl tend to shove whatever rubbish they find in there ) try the osprey books if you are from uk or usa osprey uniforms can be ordered at any bigger book store if not then mail me at kry56@op.pl ill send you scanned uniform references from my copies of osprey titles
( back to researching rivoli that man gave me a bit of a challenge there )
best regards
