Hi Guys

Oliver Stone is making a new film called Alexander should be released November.

Synopsis

The story is an epic that is as daring, bold and ambitious as its subject, a relentless conqueror who by the age of 32 had amassed the greatest empire the world had ever seen. Past and present collide to form the puzzle of the protagonist, a tapestry of triumphs and tragedies in which childhood memories and Alexander's rise to power unfold side by side with the later day expansion of his empire, its gradual decline and ultimate downfall. From his youth, fueled by dreams of glory and adventure, to his lonely and mysterious death as a ruler of a vast state, from the tumultuous relationship with his parents-a powerful king and a queen determined to put her child on the throne at any cost, including murder-to the rousing "band of brothers" bond with his closest companions and vast army, as they fought from the sun-scorched battlefields of the Persian Empire across the snow-peaked mountains of India, the film chronicles Alexander's journey to become a living legend. For as Virgil wrote, "Fortune favors the bold." And no king or emperor, either before or after, ever achieved such fortune, or indeed was so bold, as Alexander the Great.

Colin Farrell .... Alexander
Jared Leto .... Hephaestion
Anthony Hopkins .... Ptolemy
Rosario Dawson .... Roxana
Angelina Jolie .... Olympias
Jonathan Rhys-Meyers .... Cassander
Val Kilmer .... Philip

Hmmmm,

Oliver Stone on Alexander the Great, huh? I am fearful. Oliver is not what I would call a military enthusiast. He wouldn't know a hoplon if is stabbed him in the...well, lets just say he dwells more on the perverse and conspiritorial than the historically accurate.

Get ready for large doses of 1) Greek homosexuality 2) plots by the "conservative Greeks" to kill Alexander 3) moral equivilances between Oriental despotism and Greek democracy, and on and on.

Yet, fearful as I am, like the Kennedy movie, I will go see it, leave reality and just get "Stoned" for awhile.

Hey Drake

Dont mix Greeks and Macedonians !!!!!!!!!!

Macedonian was never Hellenic country !!!!!!!! It was never democratic country too !!!!!!
"moral equivilances between Oriental despotism and Greek democracy ?" Its good for movie about Persian Attacks on Hellenics ( Termopilae, Marathon..) but its was 100 years before Alexander was born...
Macedonians were never any kind of Greek - ofcource they used Greek philosophers ( aristoteles was Alexander personal educator ) and read Greek books, ( Alexander best lecture was Illiad ) hawever it was absolutty another nations ! Macedonians used to disdain Greeks and their customs and for Greeks and vice versa - Greeks didnt liked Macedonias - for them it was another barbarian nation. Macedonians had similar art of war like Hellenic states - but it was only one similar thing. REst was absoluttly another !
In politic - MAcedonia was always kingdtom - never democration. During Alexander time - all military power of Greece was over - Hellenic Countrys ( Theb, Athen and Sparta ) were defeat in battle of Cheronea by Alexander father - king Philip .

About Greeek Homosexuality - it was kind of think very popular in Athen,
Theb BUT NEVER IN MACEDONIA !!!!!!!!!!! MAcedonians people used to
have another -"barbarian" entertainment - they drink a lot of wine and really loved their woman ( not boys !!!!!! )

HAwever Alexander is a specyfic problem - cos his personal life was very strange - and its never shown on popular books - He was very sick and proboblly mad - He killed many his friends and started be paranoic when he defeated Darius - afater he started to believe that is God .
Thats why i was curious if this movie will show all truth about Alexander, which was great solder but very mad and cruel man. Its hard task for director of such movie - which always looking for positiv heroes -so if this he choose this trend - movie will be crap... Its really easier to make movie about Napoleon - which u can like - cos it was quite a cool man - hawever not Alexander !
But im rather expect that this movie will be moore comercial than historicall - so great battles, landscapes, nice ladys .... and ofcrouce Stone will add one or two controversy accents to show that he is still "controversial" director .
regards

Yes the Macedonians were different than the Greeks but they became Greeks
Alexanders empire was a Greek empire.. and later the Romans fell under their spell on the Greco-Roman civilization
when Greeks meant "barbarians" they meant someone who didnt have Greek culture education or speak the Greek language It had nothing to do with military conquest
you speak Greek ,, you have Greek educationand culture (not necessary believing in the Greek gods) then you are a Greek

Todays Greeks they have their own state, independence..But they are becoming increasingly like the Americans (and a bad copy I must say)

face it guys. U.S biggest weapon of mass destruction is Hollywood..

About homosexuality
before Jesus the Greeks believe that the most powerful force in the universe is the God Eros (love) the all connecting principal now in relationships that meant that you are in love (connection) with your idol teacher Hero and in some case you want to have a carnal relation with your idol-teacher- hero (not usually with you best friend) - how many teens today they would like to have a more intimate relation with their idol?

Hello REhtaw - where have u been all the time ? Last time i saw u maybe year ago ...
Ofcource u right - Greek culture was best their weapon - Macedonians, Romans - and rest of the world - respected and recognized it as best one.
Roman who wanted be called himself "gentelman" had to be educated by greek and to know most of greek literature. Even Saint Poul is called best educated apostle - cos only he knows greek language.

Thats why Greeks were never quit destroyed -( example Carthagena and Macedonia - they were destroyed by Romans ) . Athens even during Roman Empire had smalll automy.
Hawever i dont agree thats Alexander was build Greek Empire - cos he had some own plans - and ofcource he loved Hellenic Culture ( specially literature and theater ) but from second hand he was looking for something moore universal and wanted to mix Persian, GReek and Macedonians culture. HE was inducing MEcodnians to wear Persians cloths, to marry with Persian ladys, and even to have moore than 1 wife ( what was correct to Persian customs but againtly macedonian and hellenic ) Trully he was looking for univeral key for creating one society with all conquered nations. He was planing to stop and prohibit slavery too ( this was very hellenic according to theory some hellnic philosophers but not so hellnic according to law of Athen and another hellenic states ) All this plans failed and his Empire was broken up just few days after his death..
From second hand most of hellenic nations rahter hated Alcexander and MAcedonians - cos they lost independce and ALexander orders were very unfavorable for them ( he ordered to get back to Greece all exiles - mainly mercenaries in Persian service - and to return them their property - confiscated by local hellenics govermants - This decision was for some hellenic states -economical disaster thats why they protested very laudly ) . Thats why just after his death they started new war against MAcedonia and Antipater ( Alexander deputy in Macedonia )
