I was trying to use the editor from the toolkit to view the .smp files, the trees and stones, but I had no luck. I thought that I read that you could load them in to any art package, but still no joy. Is there an editor somewhere that I can use please?

it does help if I used the correct file extension.

Smp file isnt a file containing stones and trees. Its just a file with their positioning. For example if you got a bushlet made out of few bushes and stones, it will be stored in smp file. And you cant edit them, you can only create it with the in game editor.

All trees and stones are stored in a graphics .gp file named trees.gp i think.

Hi gexozoid

I wondered if I might be on the wrong track, but I could not find a program or are package to open or edit the .gp files. I tried to convert them to .jpg and .bmp, but still no joy. Do you know how to edit the .gp files please?

.gp files are games graphics files, you cant just simply convert them to image files. You need a special program to unpack them (and get .bmp files) and then pack them up again into .gp so game can use them.

You can find more info here: https://cossacksworld.ucoz.co.uk/

What exactly are you trying to acomplish?

I planned to try and make some changes, just for my own maps. I would like to change one of the trees in to a tree stump as in ACDN. I think that this would add more realism to the landscape. I also wanted to change some of the stones to barrels. As I am no artist I thought that I may be able to capture objects from some of the buildings. There are lots of barrels around in the construction of buildings.
If this worked, I wanted to change a built building to a burnt out building to add more realism to a war torn landscape map. Obviously this building could only be used once or twice as it would affect all other building of that type on the map.

Cossacks building are saved as .jpg if I remember rightly and are easily viewed and changed in any art program. Thanks for the web site address, I have requested membership.

No, all games used graphics are in .gp and when unpacked they are in .bmp

Why would you do such things if only thoes who would have the mod could use thoes maps?

After unpacking the GSC file the games graphics are in .bmp, but I was after the stones and trees. The building and pieces (I take it the pieces are the stone and trees) are listed as .SMP extensions.

I tried to view the .gp files with the cp_Arch program, but after opening any .gp file the program crashes.

Am I looking at the wrong files again?

All troubleshooting should be found at cossacks world site. Also all instructions aswell.

Gparch needs to be in root C: to run.
