feed back for 1805 Campaign

i could do with feed back on the Campaign that we just played
this was a test and i already know of some mistakes that i made in the map making process
but i would like more !
this can be negatives or positives from the individual maps to the rules and even how the Campaign is played
and i will update this first post on suggested improvements and weather we can impliment them
RULES

1.Wertingen

2.Gunzberg

3.Haslach-Jungingen
advantage france map the same as advantage austria i corrrected this before the battle for those playing it but felt i should of maybe took some more troops off
4.Elchingen

5.Amstetten

6.Mariazell

7.Durnstein

8.Schongrabern

9.Austerlitz

now i know we didn't play all the maps so schrongrabern and Austerlitz so will have no comments but we can look at them next time or even do some test games in the week

plus maybe can start on a friday evening in future as this Campaign is quite along one

the other thing i will be looking at is troops composition to get a better all round feel to the campaign

i will for example be adding some french white uniforms based on this discussion http://www.mastersofthefield.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1748&hilit=+white+uniforms

any one who has a good oob of these battles if you could post them that would be great but not on Austerlitz as there are loads of good ones on the net :)

also going to look at art as on some i felt these dominated the fight especially those with quite a few howitzers

I like the fact that troops in this campaign are deployed in the way that allows for lots of maneuvering and one can develop very sophisticated plans with this sort of divisional deployment. I mean, the armies are in most cases quite separated from each other, the players have lots of space to do surprising movements or hide the reserves and such.
This is unique in your campaign and offers lots of possibilities which make each battle look different on the same map.. As opposed to my 1813 campaign, where the battles are pitched and troops generally have to fight in more or less the same position where they initially were deployed.

Great stuff mate ;)

Well, first I must really compliment you on the look of many of these maps, and the troops variety already present on many of them, specifically Austerlitz.

I will try to get into more specific stuff later, but all in all, great job on this campaign across the board.

OK, sorry took me so long to get back to you on the subject of the campaign. I really like the look of the maps, and the layout of the troops, and the objectives with the various points assigned.

My one big issue with most of the maps is the number of cannon, which I think can affect battle out of pace with their real impact. I take for example Austerlitz. The Allies are said to have had around 80,000 men with about 300 or so guns. This boils down to a ratio of cannon to men of 1/266 or say 1/300. On a map with 7,800 men this could be about 30 guns. On your map you have 62 cannon (of various types) which is a ratio of 1/125 which I think is way too high.

Your ratio for the French is here more realistic 1/240 though the historical reality was about 1/525. You can of course alter it for playability like you have. But again, the numbers given the Allies are just way to high. I think that a safe ratio, for any battle where true numbers of cannon to men is not known would be about 1/300 or 1/400.

This would apply then to all the other maps, which also need to be examined in this regard.

The placement of cannon could also be looked at, and some basic rules here would be;
1) do not place 12 pdrs in any columns which must travel, place them already in batteries ready for use, on heights, or behind lines.
2) don't have a ratio higher than 1/6 for howies.
3) place about one 4pdr per 4 cavalry squads
4) if you have a whole army which must travel, place any 12 pdrs and 8 pdrs at the front of the army so that they can be used relatively quickly and not have to travel most game or be left behind and captured. Horse drawn 4 pdrs, 6 pdrs and 6 pdr howies can travel with columns from the rear.

So, that is my major observation of what I would address in these maps...the cannon ratio and placement is the major issue I think.
