Battle of Wagram

July 5-6^th, 1809

The Map Rules

The French army (blue) is back on the offensive after an un-successful incursion across the Danube two weeks earlier. At this point in the battle, the town of Aspern has been re-taken and fulfills one of the Map Objectives (circled yellow) for the French. Yet the Austrians (green) still control other strategic locations that are significant to this battle. Once the French control three of the four flags, they are declared the winner (Map Objective flags will turn your color when you control the immediate area). Labou Island is the French base camp and supplies the army. Gun boats protect it, as well as redoubts. Its loss would eventually starve the French effort through strangled ammo and gold supply. Both sides are able to build redoubts and explosive charges. If it is obvious that the French players will not be able to achieve three flags, they should surrender (withdraw) to make the game more realistic and fun. The moment that French players do hold three flags however, the Austrians must surrender.
